Company Information

Chelsea Building Society (TheChelsea.co.uk) is a member of the Yorkshire Building Society, the second largest building society in the UK and one of the most trusted mutual organisations in the country. Aside from offering insurance policies, financial saving accounts, general financial advice and conveyancing services, Chelsea Building Society also provides a range of mortgages to help customers take the first step on the property ladder.

Customers can apply for a mortgage from Chelsea Building Society in one of its many branches, by phone or online. Once you’ve applied, the building society offers a mortgage application tracking service, where you can keep up to date on the status of your application and get frequent updates on your phone or online.

Aside from its range of tracker and fixed rate mortgages, Chelsea Building Society has 95% fixed rate mortgages on offer for those who are only able to put a small deposit down on a property. The building society also provides mortgages with no product fees and special deals for first time buyers, along with cashback offers for deposits over a certain percentage. Chelsea Building Society will also pay the Stamp Duty Land Tax for first time buyers, and its conveyancing service allows you to conduct the entire mortgaging process in one place without having to pay additional fees to solicitors.

For customers looking for a tracker mortgage, Chelsea Building Society has mortgages set at interest rates following the Bank of England Base Rate. This may be higher or lower than Chelsea Building Society’s Standard Variable Rate. There are multiple two year tracker mortgage products to choose from with varying costs, as well as an extensive variety of two, three and five year fixed rate mortgages.

For customers that want to link their savings account to their mortgage to pay their monthly fees, Chelsea Building Society also provides the Chelsea Offset account. This Offset account creates a simple connection between the two balances, allowing you to reduce your overall mortgage payments and pay your mortgage more easily.

One of my neighbours in our block of flats was selling her 2 bed flat and was looking for a 1 bed flat similar to mine in the area. I had a bit of a brainstorm and decided that if I could get the mortgage to do it, we could simply swap flats and I would pay her the difference in the prices.

I was over the moon when she agreed to it in principle and set about trying to get the money to do the deal. She had already agreed to a reduction in the selling price because we were saving on estate agents fees. So I was even more desperate to get the mortgage and clinch the deal as they say.

My older brother and his wife had just bought their new house with the help of a mortgage from the Chelsea Building Society and so I went with them first to see if I would be lucky too.

After explaining my situation to their Mortgage Advisor I was more or less guaranteed the mortgage subject to the usual credit and salary checks. Within a couple of weeks the whole deal was set up and my neighbour was very happy with the outcome as I am too.

If the Chelsea Building Society hadn't been so quick with processing the mortgage I may well have lost out on this clever little deal because it turns out there were loads of people in our block of flats who would like to have done what I did if I hadn't got there first.

It didn't realise that the Chelsea Building Society was a member of the Yorkshire Building Society until I went online to make my mortgage application recently. So I suppose if I lived in Yorkshire instead of South West London I would still be getting my mortgage from the same lender technically.

Anyway, after checking both their websites it would seem they are offering the same competitive interest rates on their fixed rate mortgages and that is what matters to me. I've heard that Yorkshire people are very careful with their money and so if they are happy with their mortgages through the Yorkshire Building Society then who am I to question that.

So I have got my fixed rate mortgage which I am very happy with but I'm just not sure who I should be thanking first, but thanks anyway!

My name is Maureen Spiers and myself and my husband decided to buy a small cottage a few months ago.
It is our first mortgage and I was very pleased as Chelsea Building Society, knowing this, offred us a special deal, which was rather a generous one.
The option we decided on was the fixed interest rate one, as we like to know exactly where we stand and the exact amount we pay every month, so we can budget.
Both my husband and I feel that what they offered us in comparison to other banks was good. Also we were pleased not to have to pay aditional fees to our solicitor and happy that we could track how the application was going. Great service.
